At Everything Marine USA, we build Real X, South Florida, and USA Trailers to tackle Miami’s toughest conditions—saltwater, heat, and heavy use. But even our rugged aluminum trailers need regular maintenance to stay in peak shape. Whether you’re a weekend angler or a Keys regular, these tips will keep your trailer rolling smoothly and your boat safe.
Start with a saltwater rinse. Miami’s coastal waters leave salt on your trailer’s frame, axles, and hardware after every launch. Grab a hose and rinse it thoroughly post-trip—focus on the undercarriage, torsion axles, and stainless steel bolts. Use a brush for stubborn spots like barnacle buildup near bunks. Our trailers resist corrosion, but this 15-minute habit prevents pitting and extends life. Dry it with a rag or let the sun do it—wet metal invites trouble.
Check your tires and bearings next. Before towing to Haulover or Crandon, test tire pressure—our radials (often ST205/75R14) need sidewall-spec PSI, usually 50-65. Look for wear—tread below 3/32” means replace them; Florida’s heat eats rubber fast. Bearings need greasing every 6 months or 2,000 miles. Pop the hub, clean old grease with solvent, and repack with marine-grade grease—spin the wheel to check. Our torsion axles rely on this to avoid roadside woes.
Lights are a must. Our submersible LEDs handle saltwater, but wiring corrodes in Miami’s humidity. Test brake, turn, and running lights before each haul—fix dimness with a wire brush and dielectric grease. Keep spares handy; Florida law demands working lights, and a ticket’s no fun. Inspect connections monthly—salt sneaks in.
Lubricate moving parts—winches, rollers, couplers—with marine grease every 90 days. Work it in, wipe excess, and check for rust or bends. A stuck winch at the ramp wastes your day; slick parts keep launches fast. Our trailers are built tough, but this keeps them Miami-ready.
Store it right. When not towing, lift your trailer on blocks—tires flat-spot under weight. Cover it; Miami’s sun fades paint and cracks vinyl. Rinse and lube pre-storage—salt festers otherwise. Your trailer will thank you come spring.
